I started ZteaM in 2004 when researched
several cycling clubs and felt a need for a larger more
structured organization that supported not just existing
cyclists but also young and up and coming ones, plus an
outlet for many new entrants to the sport. I also felt the
need for a cycling entity that really supported its local
community including its retail bike shops and fitness
training centers, as well as local charities.
ZteaM is a terrific solution. Borrowing from a common
phrase, “Think Globally and Act Locally”, our national
structure provides the tools for local ZteaM chapters or
affiliated cycling clubs to operate their clubs
efficiently and cost effectively yet keep the intimacy of
a localized leadership and member structure including club
rides & racing, training, clinics and socialization among
members. While building local camaraderie or community is
paramount we also continue to leverage our national
presence and pass on many benefits to members.
Our motto is one that I live by: “Live Large. Stay fit”
Living large is not just about consumption and financial
wealth. It’s about having dreams, knowing yourself,
strengthening your state of mind, and trying to balance
yourself while reaching your own goals. If you focus on
these things—make the commitment and follow through—you
build true personal wealth. And what better than to do
things you love with friends? For me, it is on a bike.
Fitness is a challenge. It takes training. It takes
discipline. It requires support and patience from your
family and your friends. And as we get older, the
challenge increases. It's far easier to watch than to do
the hard work. That's where the support you get from being
part of a cycling club can work wonders.
ZteaM began in Marin County, just north of San Francisco,
and is expanding rapidly across America. Consider ZteaM as
your next affiliation.
